So I haven’t updated this thing in forever. My bad. Happy New Year, though!
I spent New Years Eve and today moving stuff into the new apartment. I got a few pieces of furnature and some kitchen stuff from some people in my church, and I’ve packed up most everything I can in my room that isn’t needed. My landlord said that I should be able to move in on Wednesday. I was supposed to be able to move in today (at least, that’s what my lease says), but it’s a new building, and as such needs some final permitting before I move in. Due to the holiday the last two signatures he needs have been out of town for two weeks… you’d think the town would provide a backup or something, but apparently there aren’t such luxuries for me.
So the plan right now is for me to be fully moved in then. Of course, since it’s a new building, I won’t be on the Intertron (except at work) until the cable company gets their butts out to bring a line to the building. Why not get DSL instead, you say? Because in the words of my landlord: “the more I yell at them to come out here the less interested they seem in coming out to install the line.” He’s been on the phone with Verizon for three months and they keep delaying because they’ve been rewiring the entire town with newer cable (there have been trucks holding up traffic all over the place the past few weeks). I guess new buildings and such are low on the priority list.
Once I get moved in, though, people are welcome to come visit. I may not have much furnature (so far a bed, a kitchen table, and a bedside table) but the floor is nice and… uhh… sturdy?
I spent two weeks at home with the family which was nice. My parents moved into a new, smaller place and so it was fun to have five of us in a space really only meant for two. I ended up sleeping on a mattress in the middle of the living room. I caught up on a few movies (a giant gorilla ice dancing was a bit much, but the medieval war scenes were sweet) and visited the National Air Force Museum. I took a ton of pictures that I’ll upload eventually… they had some pretty sweet planes and even a few things from the space program. They’re a little dark, but most of them aren’t bad.
See you on the other side! Hopefully it won’t be a few weeks.
